New Pedal Day!
A C-Tech Red Rooster.
i always wanted a C-Tech Sonny Boy, which is supposed to be a blues-oriented pedal, but they’re axing $200 for one on Reverb. That’s too much.
The Red Rooster is basically the same thing, but more classic rock-oriented than blues-oriented. I was eyeing one on eBay that $225, but no way could I get that.
Then last week a red rooster for $49 popped up, and they said it was in good, working order, so I snapped it up.
it’s got some really good distortions on it, so much so that I don’t need my RAT or my CompTortion anymore. And it’s not too noisy by itself, so I don’t think I’ll even need my Donner Noise Killer pedal with it. I might need it when I plug it into my tube amp, tho. Right now I’m using the Captain Sunset, because headphones.
And the Red Rooster has a button called 911, which really boosts any of the settings it’s on.
I’m really happy with this pedal, it’s better than I expected.

Haven't heard of it before, looks like a cool pedal 😎 Looks like it does a bunch of different flavors?
Yeah, a bunch of different distortions, like a multi-effects pedal. But it’s analog, not digital.
The C-Tech Sonny Boy and Red Rooster came out in the ‘90s, I think. Maybe some 25 years ago.
Here’s a Sonny Boy pedal, but they want $200 for it 😳

Another new pedal, an MXR Fullbore Metal pedal
br00tal
How does it sound? I think those are pretty similar to the EHX Metal Muff I've got. I haven't used it much in a long time though. I should get it out. I used it a lot with a 5 watt Blackheart head I had that didn't have any built-in gain
What I like most about “metal pedals” is that I don’t need to use my CompTortion with it. The CompTortion is a combination distortion pedal and compressor. With all of the other distortions I have, I need the CompTortion also to boost the sound.
I have 3 metal distortion pedals, a Digitech Metal Master, a Danelectro Fab Metal pedal that was given to me by EJK, and the MXR Fullbore Metal pedal. None of them need a compressor to sound good (to me, anyways :) ).
But my favorite of those 3 is the Fullbore, it has the most tweakability. It can go from classic rock, and with the help of the scoop button do really hi-gain and edgy metal.
